I am disappointed not to have been able to join you for this conference and the debate. The Idea of a University is being discussed widely at the moment. Academics, employers and prospective students are considering how our universities are changing with the new funding arrangements, which will commence in September 2012. The Coalition has a clear recognition of the wider public benefits that our higher education system offers, economically, culturally and socially. I personally believe our universities are one of the most precious institutions that modern societies possess, they are vital for transmitting a body of knowledge, culture and sceptical understanding from one generation to another....CLICK HERE TO READ IN FULL. The Warwick Higher Education Summit, WHES, took place on January 28th, 2012 at the University of Warwick - discussing the theme: Can the public university be Saved? Our key focus was the imminent changes facing the role universities have as a public institution. With students and universities across the country for the first time preparing for up to £9,000 annual fees in 2012 - now is an important time to question what a university education will mean for future generations, and for society as a whole. Organised for the first time by both students and staff at the University of Warwick, WHES witnessed an exciting day of debate.
